Study finds New York a safe place to live alone

ROCHESTER N.Y. (WHEC) — A study by home security company ASecureLife named New York as the second safest state to live alone in the United States.

The study placed New York behind only New Jersey in terms of the safest living conditions for people living alone. Eight of the top 10 states in the study are located in the Northeast.

The study found Alaska to be the most dangerous state to live alone in.

According to Census data, 27 percent of people in the U.S. were living alone in 2013.

The study took in factors such as property and violent crime rates, local law enforcement presence, and percentage of single people living in the state when creating its ranking. All these factors come from FBI and Census data.
