SUNY Geneseo swimmers compete in North Carolina

GENESEO , N.Y. (WHEC) -- The SUNY Geneseo swimmers who qualified for the national championship in North Carolina were in the pool Wednesday, and some have already qualified for the next round of competition.

Thirteen swimmers, most from SUNY Geneseo, qualified but as we've been reporting, they couldn't fly to or stay in the state of North Carolina because of an executive order issued by Gov. Cuomo back in 2017.

The governor doesn't allow state-sponsored spending in North Carolina because he feels the state is anti-LGBTQ.

So, the student-athletes had to fly into and stay in Virginia. Now, they're commuting an hour back and forth to the venue.

As we mentioned, some moved on after qualifying rounds Wednesday morning, others didn't.

News10NBC will keep you posted on their progress.
