The Susan B. Anthony house is saying goodbye to a part of history.

Thursday morning a tree in front of the house was being taken down because it's considered no longer viable.

The tree is so old it was around when Susan B. Anthony was still alive.

According to city officials there is a legend Anthony protested calls from neighbors to take it down.

Now the tree may be coming down but it won't just be turned into mulch.

"We're working in conjunction with the Susan B. Anthony house to make sure that we use this tree for something special afterwords whether we can cross-section the tree and provide it to the house," explained Anthony Orphe, the director of Buildings and Parks for the City of Rochester. "There's been an idea to make a bench out of it. There's a couple of things floating around. Once we get it down and see the actual integrity of it we'll be able to make a better assessment."

In anticipation of this a younger tree was planted more than twenty years ago to take the place of the old one.
