Man charged in connection to Diplomat brawl, shooting case pleads guilty

GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) -- One of the suspects charged in connection to the shooting and brawl that broke out at the Diplomat Banquet Center in January is now facing upwards of 4.5 to five years in prison. 

Yamil Maldonado, 39, was originally charged with reckless endangerment and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

According to Gates Police, Maldonado pleaded guilty Monday to criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

Maldonado is accused of firing a handgun several times in the direction of people running out of the Diplomat on Jan. 13.  

Five other suspects, including the business manager of the Diplomat, have been charged in connection to the fights that broke out at the party house. 

Maldonado is scheduled to be sentenced May 6.
