ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A Sweden woman is facing charges after deputies say she intentionally injured a 3-year-old child.

Deputies arrested Jamie Nicosia, 42, on Wednesday and charged her with second-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The arrest stems from an investigation that began on Nov. 13 with a call to 911 by Nicosia reporting a 3-year-old girl in her care was not breathing and was unresponsive. Hospital staff noticed several injuries to the child, prompting them to call CPS.

The victim was a foster child in the process of being adopted by Nicosia and her husband.

Investigators determined Nicosia "committed intentional acts" that led to the child's injuries. Deputies say the victim has been released from the hospital and is still recovering.

Nicosia was arraigned and released on her own recognizance.
