Midlakes High School student seriously hurt in Ontario County crash

A teen is in guarded condition after the car she was in crashed into a tree and a pole in Ontario County.

At around 5 p.m. Sunday, deputies say 21-year-old Justin Palombi was driving north on South Marbletown Road in Phelps when he lost control of his car after traveling around a curve. The car left the road and struck a tree and utility pole.

Deputies say 17-year-old Kaitlyn Ingerick was a passenger in the car and had to be cut out of the car by rescue crews. She was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with multiple injuries including leg fractures, facial lacerations and fractures. She is currently listed in guarded condition 

Ingerick is an 11th grader at Midlakes High School. Officials tell News10NBC the school has activated its Crisis Response Team. Counselors are available to assist students and staff.

Investigators say Palombi suffered a hand injury but is expected to be okay.

Palombi is charged with DWAI-drugs, reckless driving, unlicensed operation, speeding, and failure to keep right. 

The cause of the accident is still under investigation with more charges pending.
