A disabled man, sitting in his living room, first noticed the fire and yelled to his 22-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son who were on the second level. The man's children tried to assist him in exiting the house, but were unsuccessful.

Firefighters arrived in time to pull the man from the heavy smoke and flames and provided immediate medical attention.  He was then rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Several fire trucks were on the scene, but firefighters had the blaze under control just before 1 p.m.

RFD is investigating the cause of the fire.
