GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — Gates Town Supervisor Cosmo Giunta says that there is a plan in place to help make an area on Lyell Avenue safer.
The plan is to extend sidewalks from renovations on 390 along Lyell Avenue through Howard Road.
News10NBC looked into the area of Lyell Avenue by the Wegmans after two children were hit by a car in a parking lot by Rossmore Street on Thursday night.
However, Giunta says the NYSDOT came to him months ago with the proposal to extend the sidewalks.
Many viewers who travel that area say the area gets lots of foot traffic but there are no sidewalks for them to use.
Giunta says the project is scheduled to begin in 2020.
