Troopers: Registered sex offender charged in sex assault case posed as Brockport student online

SWEDEN, N.Y. (WHEC) — A man arrested in a sexual assault case pretended to be a college student online, state police say. 

David Castaneda, of Brockport, who may also be known as David Castaneda Trejo or David James, is charged with criminal sexual act and 12 counts of falsifying a business record for filing false records with the College at Brockport.

Troopers say the Castaneda, who is already a registered level 2 sex offender, had forcible sexual contact with a victim after pretending to be a college student at Brockport on social media. 

The alleged incident happened in the Town of Sweden in October 2018.

Castaneda was arraigned and sent to the Monroe County Jail on $25,000 cash or $50,000 bond.

State police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed against Castaneda. Investigators also believe there may be other victims.
