It was the first football sectional title to be handed out this season, and whatever team that won would finish off one of the biggest redemptive stories of the season.
Irondequoit came into the game undefeated after having lost in the championship last year, while Victor came in with just two losses on the season, one of them to Irondequoit.
The game was a back-and-forth fight, but eventually Irondequoit would pull ahead for good in the fourth thanks to the play of quarterback Freddy June Jr, who took part in all three touchdowns as the Eagles took home the 21-14 win, including a rush with less than 10 seconds left in regulation.
"Freddy June, he came over to us and said Coach, there's no way I don't score," says Dan Fichter, the Irondequoit head coach.
"And I'll tell you what, they probably put five different hands on him to tackle him, and that's Freddy June, he's the best high school football player I've ever coached and I got to tell you I've watched a lot of high school football and I haven't seen anyone better."
"I call that play and said I need the ball," says June, "I'm going to score. I was determined, I said I wasn't leaving without this brick (the trophy) and what's what I came in for. It means a lot, last year we came up short, this year we went all the way through, and we're going to keep playing, game by game."
