Upstate HomeCare notifies patients and employees of ransomware attack

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A ransomware attack on a local company exposed the personal information of its patients and employees.

Upstate HomeCare said the attack happened earlier this year, but cybersecurity experts just found its documents posted on the dark web.

The information exposed includes names, social security numbers and health insurance information.

Upstate HomeCare said it is now strengthening its system.

The therapy and equipment provider has locations across the state, including in Rochester and Canandaigua.
