Veterans fundraising for future war heroes

Rochester veterans are working to make sure tomorrow's veterans get the honor they deserve.

The veterans came together with local leaders Sunday at Nashville's in Rochester.

The event was a fundraiser for the proposed "Warriors of Freedom Memorial" to be built in Highland Park.

The new memorial is set to be placed next to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

It's meant to tell the story of America's military heroes of the past and into the future, for reflection and honor.

"We need to do this for the young guys," said Dan Hasenauer, a Vietnam veteran. "The young men and women that have been out there fighting for us. I mean they've taken our place. Now it's their turn."

Hasenauer would continue by saying, "this memorial will be for them, to go and think about their friends that they've lost, and their buddies that they fought with."

The funds raised Sunday will go towards a special endowment for the Warriors of Freedom Memorial.

This is to make sure Monroe County will be able to take over and maintain the memorial into the future.
