ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Catholic Diocese of Rochester filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Rochester Thursday morning.
The petition comes amid a flood of lawsuits filed under the Child Victims Act naming the diocese as a defendant.
He went to say filing for bankruptcy is the "best and fairest" course of action to resolve sexual abuse lawsuits against the diocese while continuing the ministry of the church.
The diocese has created a specific section on its website for parishioners to understand the bankruptcy process.
