BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WHEC)— The bodies of the three Rochester National Guard soldiers killed in Wednesday night's helicopter crash received a special procession as they were escorted from the scene Thursday morning.
The procession included several local law enforcement agencies and fire companies as they led a line of vehicles from the crash site in Mendon, to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office in Brighton.
The helicopter went down in a field off of West Bloomfield Road, between Cheese Factory Road and Boughton Hill Road, the crash happened during a routine training mission. Spokesman for the Division of Military and Naval Affairs Eric Durr says they were part of the C-Company of the 1st Battalion, 171st General Support Aviation Battalion, which is based in the Army Aviation Support Facility at the Rochester International Airport.
The names of three soldiers have not yet been released, and the crash remains under investigation.
A second procession covered a long route, and was welcomed with first responders standing and saluting the soldiers.
