ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Celebrations took place Sunday for one of history's great vocal artists.
A benefit concert was held at Kilbourn Hall in the Eastman School of Music to honor the 100th birthday of William Warfield.
Warfield, born in Arkansas, moved to Rochester with family as a small child, where he later earned his Bachelor of Arts from Eastman School of Music. He also studied for his Masters degree there.
Medal of Arts awardee tenor George Shirley received the William Warfield Legacy Award during the ceremony.
