An 18-year-old has been arrested following false reports of a school shooting in Wolcott on Wednesday.

A school resource officer received information that Kyle Slyter, a student at the North Rose-Wolcott High School, was overheard talking about hunting and having "something" in his vehicle.

Investigators determined the teen had a 12 gauge shotgun and ammunition for the purpose of hunting in his vehicle.

The firearm and ammunition were recovered and secured by the school resource officer, according to deputies.

Deputies say the incident is not connected to a threat in any way, but possessing a weapon on school property is a crime.

Slyter was charged with criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
