A Gates woman is behind bars, charged with killing her transgendered partner inside the apartment they shared.

Police were called to Crerand Commons around 4:30 a.m. for the stabbing. Officials say 28-year-old Kashmire Redd suffered a fatal stab wound. According to police, Redd was stabbed in the home, ran outside for help, and collapsed on the lawn.

Doris Carrasquillo, 40, was arrested and charged with second degree murder.  Police say that Redd and Carrasquillo were in a relationship and that Redd identified as transgender man.

Police say the incident all started with an argument. Investigators didn't provide any details as to what the argument was about or what else transpired before the stabbing.

We do know that a teenager was also home at the time but was upstairs sleeping.  Police say Redd and Carrasquillo were in a relationship and had just moved when the complex opened in June. According to court paperwork, Carrasquillo admitted to police she was responsible for the death of her boyfriend.

Carrasquillo was arraigned at Gates Town Hall and is due back in court later this week.  The teen who was in the home at the time is now with family members.
