A man has been charged with second-degree murder after he fatally stabbed his girlfriend in his vehicle along Buffalo Road in Gates.

Gates Police say 54-year-old Roger Lee Wiggins stabbed 51-year-old Tracy Henton-Williams in the chest and neck with a knife while she was in the passenger seat of his Jeep Liberty. After she was stabbed, Henton-Williams either fell or was pushed from the moving vehicle.

Witnesses from nearby businesses tried to help Henton-Williams.

"You could just kind of see her fading away," witness Lara Hargrove-Wise said. "It was… I knew in my heart that she probably wasn't going to make it."

"When we realized that she had been stabbed, all I could think was, 'I can't believe a human being could do this to another human being.' I just don't understand how somebody could do this," witness Michelle Hargrove-Wise said.

Wiggins was taken into custody at the Canadian border after a border patrol officer noticed he was acting strange and nervous. Investigators believe he was trying to flee the country.

Wiggins was arraigned and remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail. He is due back in court on Friday at 4 p.m.
