Woman sentenced in fatal Lyell Avenue crash

The woman indicted by a Monroe County grand jury for driving drunk and hitting two pedestrians, killing one of the victims, has been sentenced.

Chermasia Collins, 29, was sentenced on Wednesday to aggravated vehicular homicide.

On Feb. 24, police say Collins was traveling east on Lyell Avenue at a high rate of speed when she lost control, jumped a curb, and struck 26-year-old Jordan Askew and 21-year-old Alex Kunz who were standing on the sidewalk. 

Askew was pronounced dead at the scene.

Collins was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in prison and faces a fine..

Once she is released from prison her license will be revoked for one year. 

Following the return of her license she will have to have an interlock device in her car.
