ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Construction of the Genesee Brewery keg tree is now underway.

Brewery employees began building the three-story-tall tree with more than 520 beer kegs and covering it with more than 30,000 lights.

The event will take place on Friday, Dec. 6 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. with the actual lighting at 6:30 p.m.

Genesee will once again be offering a special release of last year's fan-favorite, the  Keg Tree Ale — a cinnamon cream ale garnished with a cinnamon stick.

Mike Gaesser, Director of Packaging, says the brewery starts planning for the event in the summer.

"We'll it's one of those things that we start planning for in July," Gaesser said. "So anything we change has to be ordered in July or August, or we won't get it in time to build. We have a committee meeting and we have a bunch of stuff that we have and we have about a dozen people work from July until now."

More information on the free, outdoor event can be found here.
