UPDATE: Young mother staying at Isaiah House passes away

September 24, 2018 12:28 PM

A young mother has died following her battle with cervical cancer.

News10NBC's Deanna Dewberry first introduced us to Wilma Mendez earlier this month.

The 38-year-old mother of three was staying at Isaiah House, a hospice in Rochester.

Wilma passed away peacefully over the weekend. She was surrounded by all of her family and several volunteers.

During an interview with Deanna a few weeks ago, Wilma said she lived every day with gratitude.

"I pray to the Lord every night. 'Thanks for blessing us, and waking us up this morning,'" Wilma said.

Isaiah House provides care for the dying at no cost, relying on donations to care for each patient. The non-profit will host its annual “A Rose is a Rose” Charity Brunch on Sunday, Sept. 30.
