PHELPS, N.Y. (WHEC) — Deputies arrested an Ontario County man for allegedly stealing and pawning catalytic converters, making more than $14,500.
The Ontario County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday they arrested and charged 37-year-old Michael Heidemann of Phelps with third-degree grand larceny. Deputies say an investigation found Heidemann stole and pawned multiple converters from Oct. 20, 2020, through Jan.16 of this year, all from the same victim.
In total, deputies say Heidemann made $14,535 in sales.
Sheriff Kevin Henderson says Heidemann was working with another man, who was already arrested, and together they took converters from two different places.
"They were actually going to an auto lot that sells used vehicles primarily and they were taking them from those locations," Henderson said.
Heidemann is awaiting arraignment in the Ontario County Jail.
