ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Deputies in Ontario County will soon be suiting up with body cameras.
The county's board of supervisors approved a new contract with Axon Enterprise.
Sheriff Kevin Henderson says the cameras will be given to road patrol deputies, supervisors and administrators.
"I see the value of having the body-worn cameras as an asset to both the office of sheriff, also to the community," Henderson said. "If we could do something better, at least in my office, I'm more than willing to sit with anybody and work that out."
The office is leasing 90 body cameras and plans to have all body cameras set up by the beginning of 2021.
Once the program is in effect, deputies will be required to turn them on during interactions with the community.
