SHORTSVILLE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Help was available Saturday for Ontario County students shaken by a "gun in school" incident that law enforcement said could have been a disaster.

The Red Jacket school system said it’s offering trauma and grief support for students and employees who may be traumatized by what happened.

The Red Jacket Middle and High School in Shortsville was locked down Friday morning when a 15-year-old student was found to have a gun, and what deputies say was some kind of "plan."

A school employee managed to disarm the student and the Ontario county sheriff says the school did everything right and prevented a dangerous situation.

The Ontario County district attorney says charges against that student are pending.
