KENDALL, N.Y. (WHEC) — A 73-year-old woman was found dead after a house fire early Saturday morning.

It happened on Peter Smith Road near Roosevelt Highway in the Town of Kendall just before 5 a.m.

The Orleans County Sheriff's Office (OCSO) says one of its deputies was first on the scene and tried several times to get inside, but the large fire prevented him from getting in.

There were four people inside according to the OCSO, three adults and one child.

The rest were able to escape, but deputies say first responders found 73-year-old Judy A. Snyder's body in a bedroom hallway.

OCSO fire investigators, Orleans County Emergency Management, NY State Fire and the Orleans County Corners Office and the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office are all investigating the cause of the fire.

The Kendall Fire Department, Carlton Fire Company, Hamlin-Morton-Walker Fire Department, Murray Fire Department, Brockport Fire Department, and the Orleans County Department of Public Works all helped fight the fire.
