RIDGEWAY, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Orleans County Sheriff's Office and the state police are investigating after two people were found dead inside their home in the Town of Ridgeway.
Shari Payne, 56, and James Payne, 60, were found dead in their home on North Gravel Road by their son Thursday morning, deputies said.
Sheriff Christopher Bourke said the couple's son came home from work around 6 a.m. to find the door locked, which he said was unusual. After getting in through a window, he found both of them dead.
"The son checks on his parents every morning and he discovered this morning that he couldn't get in the house, it was locked so he found that unusual so he got in the house and discovered both his mom and dad deceased," Sheriff Bourke said.
Bourke said Shari Payne had been shot and stabbed, and James Payne had been shot.
Investigators are looking for a motive for these deaths, which are being treated as a possible homicide for now.
"We're taking measurements and the bodies will be headed to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's office, so probably when we put all of our information together along with the medical examiner's findings we'll be able to come to some sort of a close to this case," Sheriff Bourke said.
The Paynes had some health issues according to a release from the sheriff's office. No other details have been released.
Anyone with information on the deaths is encouraged to call the Orleans County Sheriff's Office at 585-589-5527.
