ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Tenants struggling to make ends meet now have access to legal advice they won't be charged for.

Monday Gov. Kathy Hochul announced $25 million in federal funding that will be spread out to legal service providers across the state.

In our region, $4,515,111 went to Legal Assistance of Western New York to serve the Finger Lakes and parts of Western New York, as well as $3,998,452 to the Legal Aid Society of Mid-New York, which serves the Southern Tier, as well as Mohawk Valley, Central New York and parts of the North Country.

The funding will be used to help renters avoid eviction and mediate disputes between tenants and landlords.
