ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Only 9% of 130 communities across New York State have opted out of recreational marijuana so far.

That's according to a report from the Association of Towns of New York State.

Localities can decide not to let businesses within their limits sell legal recreational marijuana or consume it, but they will not be able to collect tax revenue from legal recreational pot.

They have until the end of December to make the decision, which they can always reverse later. All they have to do is use the Office of Cannabis Management's opt-out tool.

Locally, only Gates and Irondequoit have made decisions, with Gates opting out and Irondequoit opting in.
