ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— What’s up with that sign? The lead for this story comes from a driver who noticed something odd around one of our malls.

The sign is on Hylan Drive right near Marketplace Mall in Henrietta. At first glance, it looks normal. There are directions taking you to different stores, but the sign also says "Macy’s" and "Sears." Those stores aren’t there anymore.

A viewer named Joe asked News10NBC’s Brennan Somers: When is the DOT or the Town of Henrietta ever going to remove these outdated signs for the Marketplace Mall?

Here’s what Somers found out.

It’s not a Department of Transportation or town job. That sign is for Wilmorite, the ownership group that runs all of our malls. It takes care of any outdated changes and taxpayers aren’t on the hook for the bill.

Wilmorite is still waiting to hear from the University of Rochester. It’s building that new massive orthopedics campus at the mall.

Somers was told the U of R has the option to put its logo up on the sign in place of Sears and Macy’s.

Wilmorite doesn’t want to have to shut down traffic twice. it’s waiting until the medical complex project is ready to make the update.
