ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — News10NBC continues answering your questions about the cashless system on the New York State Thruway. It’s up and running, and the gantries are working.

Here’s what several drivers are now asking News10NBC’s Brennan Somers: How does the billing process work?

There are some tweaks to how transactions will show up. The Thruway Authority put out this map to help.

It’s split into 14 segments stretching across the state. The colors are different depending on if gantries are at the on and off-ramps or over 90 itself.

The real change comes with your actual bill, whether you use an E-ZPass or are getting billed through the mail.

You’ll notice smaller transactions to tally up the total cost of your trip. Those match up with the gantries and segments split along the thruway.

Remember, the cheapest way to drive is with a New York E-ZPass. You get a small discount.
