Good Question: How are kids getting food at home?

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Our Good Question is a follow up about feeding kids.

A local mom asked News10NBC’s Brennan Somers: How are the students going to get their meals that day if they are at home? Some students don’t go to their neighborhood schools. Are we the parents responsible to get them to school in morning for breakfast and then in afternoon for lunch? That seems a bit much to me.

That’s something every family in our region needs to plan for. Not every kid will be at school every single day.

Districts plan to split breakfast and lunchtime between students. Some will be in the cafeteria, others may be eating only in the classroom. It just depends on how they space everyone out.

For kids at home, schools will have distribution sites.

What if you’re working and can’t get it for your child?

The initial proposals for districts addressed that issue stating schools will work with families to set up other arrangements. Be sure to follow up with your own school and check the preliminary plans.

Schools are also planning for kids under the hybrid model. For example, in Brighton, on days when students are in class, they can get food for their online days at home before they leave campus the day before.
