ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC)— Did you get an odd message recently claiming to be from the U.S. Postal Service?

One viewer did and sent News10NBC’s Brennan Somers a copy.

Here’s some good advice, . If it looks and sounds suspicious trust your gut because it probably is. Somers sent this text to the USPS. Yes, it’s fake.

It’s part of an ongoing phishing scheme to get your personal information and to steal your identity. This time of year, scammers are always trying to trick people during the holiday season, when we’re all ordering things online and having gifts sent to the house.

If you get one of these texts, don’t answer it. More importantly, don’t click on the link. USPS will never send you unsolicited messages or emails asking you for personal or financial details.
