ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Check out this message News10NBC’s Brennan Somers got recently about new cars and trucks:

"I’ve been looking for a new car, but have noticed there aren’t a lot of 2021 models out yet. They’re usually out months early. Why is that and when can I expect to see them?"

Like everything else, the pandemic slammed the auto industry. There has been a combination of shutdowns and delays catching up with production in recent months.

Somers asked Brad McAreavy at the Rochester Automobile Dealers Association about it.

He says we’re dealing with several factors. While companies are back to getting some new models out, they are trying not to overproduce which in turn makes everything in the process slower.

The industry is improving but those looking for an upgrade have found they have to wait until we actually start the new year depending on exactly what you want.

Here’s another sign of the industry’s rebound. Back in the spring, new car sales in Monroe County were down 50— even more than 60 percent at one point.

McAreavy says that number is creeping back up with sales off just about 15 percent recently.
