ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Our Good Question today comes from a viewer wondering about the status of casinos.

A viewer named Andrew asked News10NBC’s Brennan Somers: What's the holdup on opening del Lago Resort and Casino? Native American casinos are open and drawing from the same pool of people. Doesn't seem right.

Casinos do fall under Phase Four but are still banned from opening just yet.

The governor doubled down on that last week when talking about casinos and movie theaters saying those companies remain under review for how and when to safely reopen. No dice for del Lago.

To Andrew’s point, tribal casinos across the state did close due to safety concerns during the pandemic.

The difference here? They are not bound by the governor's orders.

They have their own compacts with the state. They did it by choice and now they are choosing to get business back up and going with restrictions in place like what we see at bars, restaurants and stores.

While the other casinos wait, some have used the downtime to make renovations and come up with plans going forward.

del Lago says it has a plan in place "that meets or exceeds CDC and OSHA guidelines" and it is ready to reopen upon state approval.
