ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Ten state attorneys general are pushing the U.S. Senate to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.
The police reform bill would ban chokeholds and eliminate qualified immunity for law enforcement.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is one of the attorneys general asking for the passage.
She says it would give attorneys general clear authority to investigate patterns of unconstitutional policing and improve transparency.
The House of Representatives passed it last month.
The attorneys general of Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon, Virginia and the District of Columbia are also calling for the Senate to pass the bill.
