10th annual community health fair held Saturday

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Mental health is a topic that’s received a lot of attention during this Olympic season this year.

On Saturday, local advocates checked in on the community’s mental health and offered a wide range of services at the 10th annual community health fair at the Boys and Girls Club.

The Monroe County Office of Mental Health, UR Neurology – Stroke Mobile Unit, RESTORE (sexual assault services), Alzheimer’s Dementia Research, and Foodlink were some of the organizations on-site.

Organizers say events like this are an important tool in getting the message out to everyone in the community.

"These are organizations that understand cultural nuances and how cultural sensitivity, cultural knowledge, can help to break down barriers and because of cultural knowledge we can lean into our communities," Joel Frater, President of Rochester Jamaican Organization said.

Another goal of the event was to get people resources for their physical health, which included dental screenings, blood pressure checks, and a covid vaccine clinic.
