WEBSTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — An 18-year-old is dead and five other teenagers are injured after a crash in Webster early Sunday morning.

Police say it happened on Gasberry Lane at around 1 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, they found the vehicle had crashed into a tree and the engine block was on fire.

A resident of the area got all of the occupants out of the car before police arrived. The driver, 18-year-old Brody D. Spade, was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement, the Webster School District said:

"Webster CSD's counseling teams will be available to students in response to a car accident that occurred in Webster earlier today and resulted in the death of Brody Spade, a 2020 Webster Schroeder High School graduate. Our deepest condolences are with all the families impacted by this tragic accident."

The five passengers were all between 16 and 18 years old.

Police say they believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing.

Neighbors told News10NBC's Emily Putnam it's not uncommon to see people speeding through their stretch of the street, as some people use it as a shortcut between neighborhoods.
