ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) – The first-ever "be you" run, walk, and race was held at Genesee Valley Park on Sunday.

It’s in support of "abilities movement," which helps facilitate fitness opportunities for people with varying needs and medical diagnoses, from autism to muscular dystrophy. Organizers say the race is a way to combine community with fitness and fun.

"We have participants who will be running, we will have participants who will be walking, and we have participants who’ll be utilizing their wheelchairs, and some as a team together. It’s a really wonderful day to be together," said Jennifer Shanley, Assistant Director of Abilities Movement.

"Abilities movement" is one of few providers that offer personalized fitness for people with severe medical needs.
