ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Assemblyman Demond Meeks (D, NY-137) announced his endorsement for William Burgess for Monroe County Legislature's 29th District on Saturday.

William Burgess is challenging Monroe County Legislator Ernest Flagler-Mitchell (D-29) in the primary election on Tuesday, June 22.

"William is a well-respected coach, a social worker who works tirelessly to the benefit of his constituents, a devoted husband, and a proud father to his daughters," Meeks said. "William is a good man of strong character and unwavering morale. It is a great responsibility to hold the position of Monroe County Legislator, and there is no better person to serve the people of Monroe County's 29th District than William. He puts others before himself and he will bring integrity to the county legislature,"

This endorsement comes after Flagler-Mitchell announced that he would be temporarily stepping down as leader of the Black and Asian Democratic Caucus amid allegations of inappropriate conduct from several women.

On Tuesday, Monroe County District Attorney's internal report documented 12 women who said Flagler-Mitchell either messaged them sexual comments on Facebook or had a sexual relationship with them, including a 19-year-old who Flagler-Mitchell started messaging after she survived a mass shooting at her house last year.

Then on Thursday, News10NBC learned about another complaint of inappropriate behavior against the lawmaker, bringing the total number of women to 13

In a statement Thursday, Flagler-Mitchell said, "These allegations against me are not true. I have always been one to help people who call on me and I attempted to do so in this instance. Unfortunately, we were unable to resolve this individual's situation favorably and now she has launched false allegations against me."

Flagler-Mitchell also spoke out about the allegations made on his podcast.

He said,  "When you look at the things going on even with me and how things are rolling, I'm just sitting back and saying, Lord, I just put it in your hands... I ain't got nothing to say about nothing. Nobody fighting the battle but God. And at the end of the day, I know what I have done for this community ever since I was a young adult."

Several members of the Monroe County Legislature and lawmakers in Rochester are calling for Flagler-Mitchell to resign.
