‘At what point do people get tired?’ Advocates renew calls to address violence in North Clinton Avenue area

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Community leaders are renewing the call to address the violence in the North Clinton Avenue area of the city.

CEO of the Father Tracy Advocacy Center Rudy Rivera Monday held a news conference to make the plea following the latest shooting to happen on the block. Last Friday, a man was shot near the International Plaza, where police say a community event was being held.

The Rochester Police Locust Club Tweeted the man shot was going to get a Christmas tree with his girlfriend and was confronted on why he was in the neighborhood.

Rivera called the shooting "unacceptable" and says the ongoing violence is a failure of leadership, of faith leaders, and of the community.

"I hear very little, if no conversation on Clinton Avenue, and there ought to be an ongoing, non-stop conversation on how can you place millions of dollars in here, around here with new houses, this plaza, giving away trees and someone is shot here," Rivera said. "At what point do people get tired?"

The advocacy center previously made a call for change after a man was killed just blocks away from the center in April.

As for the market shooting, at last check, no suspects are in custody and the victim remains in the hospital.
