SCOTTSVILLE, N.Y. (WHEC) — Area law enforcement received a show of support in Monroe County on Saturday.

Thousands of people turned out in Scottsville for the start of a "Back the Blue" ride and rally.

Members from True Blue NY and Blue Line Ride and Rally came together to host the event, where supporters were able to participate in the nine-mile ride on their bikes or in their cars.

Demonstrators say the rally is meant to show appreciation for police.

Support for one does not mean disregard for others," says John Ingallina, a supporter of Back the Blue. "And I think that's true as Americans. Support and love and being proud to be an American does not mean that we don't love and care for other people in this world. We do. But we're super proud to be an American and we're super proud to support Back the Blue."

Organizers say turnout at the events have been going up, with estimates of 6,000 on Saturday. Another ride is expected two weeks from Sunday in Wayne County.

Another, smaller demonstration for police also happened on Saturday in the City of Rochester.

A small group rallied outside police headquarters on Exchange Boulevard. There, organizers of the rally said that recent rallies and political campaigns about law enforcement are tying the hands of police who are doing their job correctly.
