ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Black Lives Matter activists are keeping up their protests by rallying in Rochester on Saturday.
Organizers said that the event was also meant to help spread awareness about transphobia and homophobia. Speakers included several longtime activists.
"Black Lives Matter Movement is the next Civil Rights movement of our generation," said organizer Stevie Vargas. "So we wanted to pay homage to our elders. We have a lot of elders in the community who have been doing this work for years. So we wanted to take a moment to appreciate them and hear them speak."
The event also continued calls to defund the police.
