BRIGHTON, N.Y. (WHEC)— The Brighton School District has its new mascot name, and it's part of a process that was "Bruin" for months.
The district announced Wednesday its new identity would now be known as the "Bruins." The district's old name "Barons" was dropped earlier this year, as a district spokesperson said it represented elitism, with ties to slavery.
The voting process came down to a final few, with other names like "Bobcats" and "Bulldogs" all receiving student votes.
According to the district, it will now begin working on a final logo design, along with working out lettering and official colors.
