ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Incumbent Assemblyman Harry Bronson currently has the lead over challenger Alex Yudelson.
Currently, about 1,200 votes separate the two democrats. News10NBC spoke with both of them overnight.
"We're still within striking distance,” Yudelson said. “I called Harry to let him know obviously the results were really good for him tonight, but we invested a lot of our time in talking with voters who were voting by mail so we’re not going to - I learned after the 2016 presidential election to not declare an election over until it’s over."
Bronson is feeling “very good” about the preliminary results.
"We worked really hard to get out our message: an aggressive leader with results, doing things for our families and certainly the numbers tonight show that the voters understood that message and are giving me the honor of going back to Albany to represent them,” Bronson said.
There are still thousands of absentee votes that need to be counted in this race.
On Tuesday, we told you Bronson filed a lawsuit to make sure all absentee ballots are validated by the courts. They aren't expected to be counted until next week.
