ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — It was already known the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival would not be in Rochester in 2021, now, organizers say it won't happen anywhere.

Producers Marc Iacona and John Nugent Monday announced the festival would be postponed to 2022. It was originally slated for July 30 to Aug. 7.

Despite being moved to the campus of the Rochester Institute of Technology to allow for more space, Iaocona and Nugent say holding the festival "will not be viable" from either a business or health safety perspective due to New York state health guidelines and capacity restrictions.

"We are disappointed to announce that the CGI Rochester International Jazz Festival 19th Edition will be postponed to June 17 to 25, 2022," they said in a statement. "We will be back next year and are committed to making every effort to move forward in downtown Rochester and also explore expanding the Festival with programming at RIT."

Traditionally, the festival, which turns 19 this year, has been held in downtown Rochester in mid-June. Last year, like many festivals, organizers initially postponed the event with the hopes of holding it in the fall, but, eventually made the decision to cancel the event.

The postponement follows the recent cancelation of several local festivals, notably the Park Avenue Festival, and the Corn Hill Festival.  Several firemen's carnivals have also been canceled or organizers shared frustration over a lack of guidance. Recently, Gov. Andrew Cuomo gave an okay to the New York State Fair, but local operators are looking for answers.

The cancellations prompted Monroe County leaders to call on Cuomo to release clearer guidelines on festivals.

Iacona did want to make this clear. This isn't a cancellation. Simply a postponement.

"If we could do it right now we would," Iacona said. "We wouldn't be making any other excuse why we can't do this festival or produce this festival. so postponed is a keyword  for us."

As for the Jazz Festival, club passes for the 2022 show will go on sale in October. Passes may be redeemed either next year or in 2023. Tickets have been refunded.
