ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — The Census Bureau says only a little over one-third of Rochester households have filled out the survey.

The bureau says about 36% have completed the survey, compared to 51% of Monroe County households, and 43% of New York State households.

Jeff Behler, The Director of the Census Bureau in New York says the results of the survey will determine funding for several important programs.

“So we need to ensure Rochester gets a complete and accurate count so services like health care, education, medicare and Medicaid, transportation systems, improving the roads,” Behler said. “All of those important programs rely on formulas… so it's so important.”

The Census Bureau wants to push the deadline back to October because field operations have been suspended due to the coronavirus.

The census can also be filled out online or by phone.
