ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Monroe County's new effort to get more people vaccinated looks to be on tap Wednesday after being put on ice Tuesday due to weather.

The “Choose Your Brew” program will officially start the Genesee Brew House.

Through the month of June, the effort will allow anyone who gets the COVID-19 vaccine at a participating brewery to get a free beer. Non-beer drinkers will get a $5 Dunkin’ Donuts gift card at any Monroe County-operated vaccine clinic.

All brewery locations will be offering the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which was granted emergency use authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for people 18 and older.

The hours and locations of the pop-up clinics are as follows:

  • Genesee Brew House, 25 Cataract St. on June 9 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Rohrbach Brewing Company, 3859 Buffalo Rd. on June 10 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Irondequoit Beer Company, 765 Titus Avenue on June 15 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Lock 32 Brewing Company, 10 Schoen Pl. on June 19 from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Three Heads Brewing, 186 Atlantic Ave. on June 21 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Monroe County Public Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza said since March, 98% of new cases have come from people who are not vaccinated, and this is even more of a reason to go out and get one. All of this means masks come off for many of us and new rules for public spaces.

Bello says he hopes this will also help out the local economy.

"It's also a great way to get back out and see what our fantastic local breweries have to offer," Bello said. "Our small businesses have suffered so much during the pandemic, and this is a great way to get reacquainted with our local breweries to get the lifesaving vaccine, and also maybe have a little fun while we do it."
