ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — Rochester city clerk’s office is now offering online marriage licenses and virtual wedding ceremonies.
This news comes in response to City Hall being closed due to the pandemic.
Now, couples seeking a marriage license can do so through an online application. Couples will also need to upload the required supporting documentation.
Once submitted, the clerk’s licensing office will schedule a Zoom meeting with the couple to review the documents. Upon approval, applicants will receive a link to pay the license fee online.
Licenses issued before the start of shut-down and were set to expire after March 16, can be extended for an additional 60 days from the original date of issue. You may request a re-issuance of a marriage license here.
Additionally, the clerk’s office is also offering virtual civil wedding ceremonies online via Zoom. Online civil wedding ceremonies will be performed by the city clerk or deputy city clerk and can be requested here.
Couples must submit the required documentation and include two preferred dates and times for their ceremony. Once approved, the couple will receive a Zoom meeting invite for their wedding ceremony and a link to pay for the ceremony online.
Wedding ceremonies can only be performed for couples who are both 18 years of age or older and who are physically located within the city limits of Rochester at the time of the ceremony. Witnesses must also be 18 years of age or older within the Rochester city limits at the time of the ceremony.
For more information regarding the online marriage license application process or virtual civil wedding ceremonies, contact the city clerk’s licensing staff at 585-428-6617.
