GATES, N.Y. (WHEC) — A massive overhaul of the interchange between I-390, I-490 and Route 31 was finally completed Tuesday.
There is now a new exit and flyover ramp at the spot in Gates where the highways meet.
New York State Department of Transportation Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez said the goal of the project was two-fold: Job creation, and to help connect more than 200,000 drivers each day.
"Literally every dollar that you invest in transportation infrastructure has a direct yield of over 13 jobs — and that's just in the construction industry," Dominguez said. "We need to make sure that if we're going to entice and enhance economic development here in the larger
Rochester area we need to make sure that we've got this level of connectivity."
Dominguez said the nearly $173 million project ended one month earlier than expected and stayed on budget.
