BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WHEC) — Investigators believe an argument over money is what led to the fight between a female SUNY Brockport student and a man she invited to her dorm room Monday night.

That fight allegedly escalated to the point where 18-year-old Jaylyn Foster held the woman against her will with a gun, strangled her and nearly suffocated her with a pillow. Foster is not a student at the university according to SUNY Brockport.

The felony complaint against him details what the victim of the attack told police: The problems started around midnight when she told Foster to leave. She claims Foster asked her to call him either an Uber or a Lyft and offered to pay her cash since she didn’t have any money on his card. Soon after, the two got into an argument. Then, Foster allegedly pulled a gun out of his coat and things got physical.

The victim stated, "I used bleach… threatened pepper spray." She says he took the pepper spray from her, and she also used a metal water bottle, pots, pans and other items in her dorm room to try and fend him off.

The victim claims Foster choked her multiple times before trying to suffocate her with a pillow.

It was the student next door who alerted the dorm’s Resident Advisor (RA) about the racket. The RA then went into the room to investigate.

The RA told investigators that while standing outside the dorm for a few minutes, they heard a man’s voice say "Sit back down" and after talking with the building’s Residential Director, the two went back to the dorm room and knocked on the door. The victim told them "You need to call the cops… he has a gun and is going to hurt me and you."

Soon after, University Police arrived and placed Foster under arrest. They found a loaded 9mm pistol in his jacket.

Foster was charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds, second degree strangulation, third degree robbery, second degree unlawful imprisonment and criminal mischief. He was arraigned on Wednesday and has since been released from the Monroe County Jail.
